Laura Wiltshire, Kansas City
A part of Westminster Class of 2016, Laura Wiltshire comes to us from Kansas City, Missouri. She was one of the few students accepted into Westminster’s inaugural Honors Program, and made the Dean's List in her first year here. As a freshman, she was elected as the Student Government Association Exec. Secretary and Freshman Vice-President, Alpha Gamma Delta's External Philanthropy Coordinator, and a Resident Advisor for the 2013-2014 school year. Laura has worked in the Student Life Office as an assistant, and she participates in intramural sports, as well as playing on the Women's Varsity Tennis Team.
In high school, Laura was in National Honor Society, played tennis, and was heavily involved in technical theatre. She also participated in the Science Olympiad Nationals in Middle School. Her IB experience prepared her for the rigorous course work demanded by the degrees she pursues- majors in Transnational Studies and Environmental Science, with minors in Spanish and Anthropology. Laura knows that she is fully equipped to handle her interdisciplinary study, thanks to the IB program's thorough training.
“IB students are looking for opportunities for true interdisciplinary study, which is entirely present due to Westminster's liberal arts focus and 3-tier program. The opportunity to be involved early-on in an honors program, internships, leadership positions, and hands-on study of their major/career choices are also essential pieces to an ambitious IB scholar,” Laura says. “Those were all things I was looking for, as well as study abroad opportunities, a wide variety of academic opportunities, and affordability. At Westminster, you get it all.”
