Athletic training services are provided for student-athletes at Westminster College in two full-service athletic training facilities. The Wetterau Center and Westminster Gymnasium athletic training rooms are equipped with treatment and rehabilitation equipment, as well as a variety of tape and bandages. Westminster College employs two certified athletic trainers; Josh Thompson and Chelsea Loethen, who care for student-athletes involved in Westminster intercollegiate athletics. Additionally, they are involved in the education of athletic training interns enrolled at Westminster.
The athletic training coverage of all home events and practices at Westminster are split up between the full-time staff and the athletic training interns.
Other responsibilities of the athletic training staff are: evaluating athletic related injuries and illnesses; developing and implementing treatment and rehabilitation programs; maintaining accurate and up to date medical records; processing insurance claims and health care administration forms; coordinating physician referrals; providing injury/illness/healthy lifestyle education; providing injury prevention information to student-athletes and coaches; counseling injured student-athletes; and providing emergency and follow-up care for various musculoskeletal injuries.
The Columbia Orthopedic Group is home to the Westminster College athletics team physicians, who provide on-campus physician clinics, as well as athletic event coverage. Our team physicians are highly trained sports medicine specialists and/or orthopedic surgeons.
The mission of our athletic training program is to maintain a high standard of care for all of our athletic programs and ultimately help injured or ill student-athletes return to participation as quickly and safely as possible.
