Music Program - Westminster College - Fulton, Missouri

If you are looking to nurture your mind and feed your soul, then the Music Program at Westminster is a good place to begin!

Westminster’s Music Program integrates applied performance, history and theory, and interpretive analysis within an academic liberal arts framework.  Not only do music courses develop artistic expression and critical appreciation, but Westminster music students also synthesize those skills throughout their college learning experience.  Through private lessons, ensembles, and history, literature, and theory courses, students are challenged to communicate effectively, reason critically, and to work collaboratively!  Furthermore, music courses are designed to develop the judgment and analytic capacity that will enable all students to become purveyors of the musical arts throughout their lives.

Performance Opportunities
Music ensembles are open to all Westminster students through auditions at the beginning of each semester.  Vocalists may audition for the Wren Quire which rehearses one evening every week or for the Churchill Singers, a chamber ensemble that rehearses for two hours every Tuesday and Thursday evening.  Instrumentalists may audition for the Blue Jay Band which rehearses Wednesdays from 7 to 9 pm.  Students receive academic credit for ensemble participation and may repeat ensemble courses for credit.

Music Minor
The Fine Arts department offers a Minor in Music.  Students pursuing a Music Minor enroll in applied lessons and a music ensemble each semester as well as completing introductory music courses and upper level music courses.  Senior students completing a Music Minor present  a research-performance lecture that is sponsored by a music faculty member.

Music Scholarships Awards
Westminster College offers music awards to incoming freshmen and transfer students who intend to participate in a music ensemble throughout their time on campus.  Student vocalists should read the Vocal Scholarship Audition FAQs for more information.  Students who wish to audition for a music scholarship must complete a Music Questionnaire and return it to Dr. Natasia Sexton.  2013-14 audition dates are October 18, November 2, November 11, and February 22.
