Project Gutenberg
Over 27,000 books and 100,000 titles. Most of these e-books are not copyrighted, that is the copyright has expired. 

Directory of Open Access Journals
This service covers free, full text, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals. There are over 3,000 journals in the directory. Over 1,000 journals are searchable at article level. Over 200,000 articles are included in the DOAJ service.
