Internships, Mesa campus
Westminster students in Mesa will have endless opportunities to participate in internships both in the Phoenix area and far beyond. The Internship Program is a collaborative venture between the Fulton and Mesa campuses, with the Fulton Center for Career Development providing the backbone of the program, and the Mesa Office of Student Services assisting students through the process.
Over the years, Westminster students have secured internships around the country and around the world, with such companies as Edward Jones, Enterprise, Rawlings, and Environment America, in cities such as Washington, D.C., Chicago, and New York City, and around the world in England, Haiti, and Kosovo. For example, as a junior, Lara Banner (Emerson Fellow) served as a Transatlantic Relations intern for the German Marshall Fund of the U.S., Washington, DC (see photo on right).
At Westminster, we understand the great value of experiential education and will make internship opportunities available to all students, regardless of major. The Westminster Internship Program is designed to extend student learning opportunities beyond the traditional classroom setting into professional work environments.Whatever your career interest, we will help you find the internship that is just right for you.
So, exactly what is an internship?
An internship is an opportunity to ...
• apply classroom learning to a real-world environment;
• make a meaningful contribution to an organization;
• learn and investigate potential career pathways; and
• gain entry-level experience in a particular field.
It is the single best way to discover if a profession is right for you!
An internship is not ...
• a part-time job;
• a volunteer position;
• a chance to improve your coffee-fetching or filing skills; or
• 100% grunt work.
The Westminster Internship Program at Westminster College ensures that all internships provide an authentic learning experience for our students. It is your opportunity to expand your boundaries by undertaking a planned, intentional, professionally-supervised work experience that relates to your career interests and academic program. In order to tailor an internship to meet your needs, we have internships in every major, ranging from one to 12 credit hours.
