Westminster Assistant Named Grinnell Head Softball Coach
2007 Westminster College graduate and assistant softball coach Amanda Reckamp has been named women’s softball coach at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa.
Reckamp, who served as assistant softball coach at Westminster for the past three seasons, completed a record-setting softball career at Westminster in 2007. She left with four school records and led the team in hitting in two-of-four seasons and led the team in RBI three-of four seasons. Reckamp earned all-conference honors twice and earned all-region third team and academic all-district second team recognition her senior season when she was named Westminster Co-Female Athlete of the Year.
Seven Westminster Student-Athletes Get Academic Nod
Fulton, Mo. – Seven student-athletes from Westminster College have earned academic all-conference by the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The honor winners represent the spring sports of baseball, softball, men’s tennis and women’s tennis.

Two Westminster Blue Jays Earn SLIAC Honorable Mention
Fulton, Mo. - Westminster College junior Amy Baumhoer and senior Morgan Campbell have earned honorable mention all-conference honors by a vote of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball coaches.
Baumhoer, a junior from Folk, Missouri (Fatima High School), batted .298 and led the team in doubles (10), home runs (4) and RBI (20) in her first season on the team. Campbell, a senior from Fulton, Missouri (South Callaway High School), batted .310 and earned all-conference honors for the third year in a row. Campbell was an honorable mention pick as a sophomore and a second team pick as a junior.

Rain Forces More Cancellations Of Softball Games
The April 23 softball doubleheader between Westminster College and Missouri Baptist University has been cancelled because of rain and will not be rescheduled. And because of rain and scheduling conflicts, Saturday's St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games with Blackburn College which were rescheduled for Monday, have been cancelled and will not be made up.

Westminster Softball Squad Swept By #10 Washington U.
The #10 Washington University Bears swept the Westminster College softball squad in a non-conference softball doubleheader Wednesday 11-3 and 8-0 in St. Louis.
The Blue Jays (6-23), who have lost six in a row, trailed 6-3 after the top of the third inning in the opener when Washington U. scored three runs and closed the game out with two runs in the home half of the fifth. Freshman Morgan Shipley went 2-for-3 and recorded two of her team’s six hits. Westminster got just three hits in dropping the nightcap 8-0 to the Bears (30-6).

Former National Champion Too Much For Blue Jays
Simpson College (22-7), which won NCAA Division III national softball titles in 1997 and 1999, handed Westminster College a pair of non-conference losses, 9-1 and 11-0, Sunday in Fulton.
Westminster (6-21) recorded four hits in the opener with freshman Riley Zull, senior Morgan Campbell and junior Ashley Belfield each getting singles. The lone Blue Jay run came in the fourth when junior Amy Baumhoer hit her team-leading fourth home run of the season over the left field fence to lead off the inning. Westminster managed just three hits in the second game, singles by senior Emily Masso, junior Brittany Moreno and freshman Kenna Cornelson.

Westminster Women Open Conference With Two Losses
The Westminster College women’s softball squad managed just 11 hits in two games and opened St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with two losses to MacMurray College Wednesday in Jacksonville, Illinois.
The Blue Jays (5-8, 0-2 SLIAC) used a three-run home run by freshman Amy Baumhoer and a two-run home run by senior Brooke Meisenheimer in the fourth inning to grab a 5-0 lead in the opener. But, MacMurray (3-13, 2-0 SLIAC) tallied one run in the fifth and six runs in the seventh to prevail 7-5. Senior Ashley Belfield (3-5) took the loss, allowing seven runs on eight hits and five walks.
Westminster fell behind 4-0 after two innings in the nightcap and lost 6-2. Senior Emily Masso, Baumhoer and freshman Kenna Cornelson each recorded two hits. Sophomore Molly Mendenhall was tagged with the loss (1-1), allowing two runs on four hits in one inning. Belfield pitched six innings in relief.
Westminster Softball Splits Two In SLIAC Round Robin
The Westminster College softball squad (5-6) split two games in the second day of the SLIAC Round Robin Saturday at the Land of Lincoln Softball Complex in Springfield, Illinois.
The Blue Jays shut out Blackburn College 6-0 in the day's opener. Senior Michelle Mayhall (1-2) got the win on the mound, limiting Blackburn to one hit over five innings while walking four and striking out four. Sophomore Molly Mendenhall pitched two innings of hitless relief. Mayhall also went 3-for-4 at the plate with one run scored. Junior Brittney Moreno went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored, and junior Amy Baumhoer went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored.
Westminster managed just three hits with singles by freshman Riley Zull and senior Emily Masso, and a double by freshman Morgan Shipley in a 9-0 loss to Fontbonne University in the nightcap. Junior Ashley Belfield (3-4) took the loss, allowing seven runs (three earned) on 10 hits over five innings, while Mendenhall gave up two runs on one hit and a walk in one inning of relief.
Friday's games in the two-day event were cancelled because of wet field conditions.

Blue Jay Softball Squad Rallies Late To Earn Split
The Westminster College softball squad rallied for two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning of the second game to defeat Saint Mary University (Kan.) 8-7 and earn a split of a non-conference doubleheader Monday in Fulton.
The Blue Jays (4-3) managed just three hits in dropping the opening game 9-0. In the nightcap, Westminster jumped on top 4-0 in the first inning, fell behind 5-4 in the top of the fourth before regaining the lead 6-5 in the bottom of the fourth. Saint Mary (1-1) tied the score 6-6 in the sixth inning and went up 7-6 in the top of the eighth. Westminster scored an unearned run to knot the score 7-7 and freshman Riley Zull singled in freshman Kenna Cornelson with the game winner. Junior Ashley Belfield (3-2), who picked up the pitching win in relief, went 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored. Senior Emily Masso and junior Brittany Moreno each recorded two hits and Cornelson drove in three runs.
Westminster Wins Opener 11-5, Nightcap Cancelled
The Westminster College softball squad pounded out 14 hits in an 11-5 victory over Stephens College Wednesday in Fulton. The games were originally scheduled for Columbia, but were moved to Fulton because of field conditions. Ironically, the second game of the doubleheader was cancelled in the third inning because of lighting and rain.
The Blue Jays (3-2) jumped on top 2-0 in the third inning, but fell behind 4-2 in the fourth inning. After regaining the lead with three runs in the fifth inning, Westminster added six runs in the late innings for the win. Senior Morgan Campbell went 3-for-4, and freshman Morgan Shipley went 2-for-4 with four RBI. Senior Michelle Mayhall went 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Junior Ashley Belfield (2-1) got the win, allowing four runs on four hits with four strike outs over six innings. Sophomore Molly Mendenhall allowed one unearned run in one inning of work against the Stars (0-3).
Westminster Baseball and Softball Teams Picked Fourth
Both the Westminster College baseball and softball squads have been picked fourth in their respective pre-season polls, as voted on by the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference coaches. The Blue Jay baseball squad finished 8-27 overall and eighth in the league standings at 6-17 last year. The 2009 Blue Jay softball squad went 12-22 overall, placed fourth in the league standings at 8-6, and qualified for the conference tournament.

Westminster Softball Goes 2-2 In Arkansas
After splitting a pair of games Saturday, the Westminster College softball squad split a pair of games Sunday to finish 2-2 in the season-opening Warrior Classic at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas.
On Saturday the Blue Jays fell to the University of Dallas 10-6 to open the season, but came back to down Blackburn College 12-4. In Sunday’s first game, Westminster topped MacMurray College 11-10 behind the 3-for-5 and four RBI performance of junior Brittany Moreno. Sophomore Molly Mendenhall picked up the win on the mound and senior Michelle Mayhall recorded the save in relief. Host Hendrix topped the Blue Jays 9-1 in the finale. Freshman Morgan Shipley went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored the lone run. Junior Ashley Belfield (1-1), who got a complete game win in Saturday’s win over Blackburn, took the loss.
2009-10 Blue Jay Softball Bits:
* The Blue Jays down Blackburn 12-4 to give Head Coach Shelli Manson her first career coaching win.
* Westminster is scheduled to open the 2010 schedule this Friday and Saturday, March 6 & 7, at the Hendrix Tournament in Conway, Ark.
* The preliminary 2010 softball schedule has been released and is available on the web (click link at left).
* Westminster went 1-1-1 at the Reverse Exposure Tournament on Sunday, September 27, in St. Louis.
* The Blue Jay softball team is running a concession stand at University of Missouri football games as a fundraiser for the 2009-10 season.
* 2009 fall softball practice has begun under the direction of first-year head coach Shelli Manson.
Manson Named Westminster College (Mo.) Softball Coach
Fulton, Mo. – Shelli Manson has been named head softball coach at Westminster College. Manson is scheduled to begin Monday, August 24.
Manson has been an assistant coach at Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana, for the past three years. Prior to that, she served as a graduate assistant at Defiance College in Defiance, Ohio, from 2004-06 while completing her graduate degree in sports science. Manson received her Bachelors of Arts degree in history from Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio, in 2003. While in college, Manson was a four-year varsity starter and played on three teams that were NCAA Division III regional runners-up in 1999, 2000 and 2002. Her 2001 Muskingum team won the NCAA Division III national championship.
Manson replaces Nicole Stacey, who left Westminster after three years to assume the head softball coaching position at Lincoln University last month.
