POSITION:  Custodian (part-time)

DEPARTMENT:  Plant Operations

FLSA:  Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO:  Custodial Services Foreman

POSITION SUMMARY:

This is manual labor associated with daily and non-routing cleaning of campus buildings and facilities.  Employees in this job classification are under moderate supervision and perform various duties requiring moderate physical strength.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain facility flooring to established standards, by dust mopping, sweeping, spray-buffing, refinishing hard surface flooring, vacuuming, spot cleaning, shampooing carpeted flooring by following proper procedures.
  • Maintain above-floor areas to established standards by scrubbing and cleaning restroom fixtures, keeping restrooms supplied with soap and paper supplies; dusting, cleaning, washing walls, doors, windows, woodwork and other above the floor surfaces following proper procedures.
  • Perform other related work to established standards by policing public areas and around the outside of buildings and facilities; removing trash from receptacles; setting up rooms for conferences, lectures and special events; moving furniture; notifying immediate supervisor of equipment  and facility items needing repair or replacement.
  • May provide guidance to work study students.
  • Equipment to be used:  vacuum cleaners, buffers, wet vacuums, auto scrubbers, carpet extractors, and typical custodial tools, equipment and supplies.
  • May provide assistance in other trades within Plant Operations as directed.
  • Some areas are hot, dirty, congested and have tight working spaces.  May be required on occasions to clean messes requiring special precautions, following campus Bloodborne Pathogen procedures.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education:  High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Two years experience in the use of mechanical cleaning equipment preferred. 
  • Skills: Requires a general knowledge of cleaning practices and specific knowledge of how to mix and use cleaning chemicals; knowledge of safety procedures related to hazardous chemicals.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

May provide guidance to work study students.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

May provide assistance in other trades within Plant Operations as directed.

EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:

Vacuum cleaners, buffers, wet vacuums, auto scrubbers, carpet extractors and typical custodial tools, equipment and supplies.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Bending, stooping, reaching, pushing, lifting in excess of 25 pounds on a daily basis.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Some areas are hot, dirty, congested and have tights working spaces.  May be required on occasions to clean messes requiring special precautions, following campus Bloodborne Pathogen procedures.

POSITION:                 Maintenance Technician (Part-Time)

DEPARTMENT:            Plant Operations

FLSA:                       Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO:           Manager of Maintenance & Grounds

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, performs a variety of work in the general maintenance and repair of campus buildings and equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Carpentry: Performs repairs to partitions, walls, doors, window frames, and residence hall furniture.
  2. Painting: Prepares various surfaces and applies paint, lacquer, varnish, or stain following recognized methods of the painting trade.
  3. Electrical: Performs basic electrical installation and repair work in wiring for switches, outlets, plugs, cables, and appliances; repairs lighting systems.
  4. Plumbing: Identifies and performs basic repairs of plumbing leaks or breaks; opens clogged lines and drains; replaces washers and other minor parts.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience: Five years of experience in performing general maintenance tasks.
  • Skills: Effectively use a variety of hand and power tools; ability to read blueprints; ability to follow oral and written instructions; communicate effectively.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

May perform a variety of tasks relating to Plant Operations work as needed.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Climbing, bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting in excess of 50 lbs.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Requires working in and outdoors. Must have a valid Class E driver’s license.
