The mission of Campus Security is to maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for our Westminster College community through service-oriented policing. The following principles govern the actions of our Security Officers.
Campus Security Officers will:
-strive to achieve positive public relations in performing their duties.
-show a readiness to assist those in need.
-treat each and every person with respect and dignity.
maintain and display a high standard of ethics in their professional life.
-honor the constitutional rights of all persons.
The college will take reasonable action to secure college buildings and all property on the grounds and in the buildings against vandalism, theft, and fire. Students are responsible for protecting and securing their own property as well as their roommates/suite mates personal property and college property. The college is not responsible for the security of personal property or its loss due to a man-made or natural disaster and will not reimburse students for losses.
While Westminster College will take all reasonable precautions to prevent crime and protect property from loss due to fire or theft, students are encouraged to seek insurance coverage on their personal property and to exercise good judgment in securing that property. The cooperation, involvement, and personal support of students in a campus safety/security program are crucial to the success of the program.
Campus Security Service Officers conduct vehicle and foot patrols on campus and are charged with the enforcement of College policies and regulations. Additionally, Security maintains a close working relationship with all local law enforcement agencies. However, we do not want our campus security to be looked at as a security force that mimics the police. We want to be viewed as a service-oriented ally for the students.
Students with firearms must store them off campus or with Campus Security. This policy applies to campus and fraternity property. Refer to the Student Handbook for more information.
Campus Security Officers offer a nightwalk escort service from 6:00 p.m. through 6:00 a.m. seven days a week and serves the entire campus. Students may call 573-642-1122, and an officer will report to the on-campus location and accompany the student to his/her destination.
Numerous efforts are made to advise members of the campus community on a timely basis about campus crime and crime-related activity. These efforts include the Annual Disclosure of Crime Report and Emergency Alert systems.
To report a crime or fire or to summon police or an ambulance in an emergency, DIAL 911. This should be followed by a call to Campus Security 573-642-1122 and a report of incidence shall be filed immediately following its occurrence.
