Dr. Aulgur, Professor of Education, has served as Chair of the Education Department since 2000. She is also serving as Faculty marshal for the college and has served as Director of the Westminster Seminar first-year experience program since 2013.
Her credentials include PhD, University of Missouri-Columbia in Early Childhood, Art & Music Curriculum focus; Master's Education, University of Missouri, Columbia in Early Childhood Education, Early Literacy focus, Bachelor of Science Degree, University of Missouri, Columbia in Elementary Education; and an Associate of Arts Degree, Stephens College, Columbia, MO. She holds three teaching certificates: Lifetime Elementary K-8, Secondary Social Studies, 9-12, and Early Childhood Education, birth-age 8.
Current classes Dr. Aulgur teaches include: Elementary and Middle School Social Studies Methods, Child Growth and Development, Early Childhood Programs and Curriculum,
Student teaching in Early Childhood and Elementary, Integrating Art, Music and Language Arts into the Elementary Curriculum and Westminster Seminar.
Before she became a full time college professor, Dr. Aulgur taught at the K-8 level in public and private schools for 17 years. Her professional accomplishments include articles published in national education journals, presentations at international, national and state education conferences as well as authoring a professional development text, Introduction to Early Childhood Education, published by Thomson/Delmar Learning. She has served on several local Parents as Teachers boards and has done professional development sessions for Head Start and Project Construct teachers.
In 2012 Dr. Aulgur, along with Dr. David Jones, Psychology, took 24 Westminster students to Denmark, where they visited elementary, middle and secondary classrooms. They also visited a teachers' college there. Dr. Aulgur has also done research in early childhood classrooms in Edinburgh, Scotland and Winchester, England. Her research interests include global teaching practices and art and music integration.
In 2007, Dr. Aulgur received the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching at Westminster. In 2013 she was named as one of the "Top 21 Education Professors in Missouri" by the Online Schools of Missouri Association.
