Biography:I am very excited to join the Westminster community as an Assistant Professor of Sociology. After taking a high school class on Russian history and literature and trip to Moscow, I developed a passion for the study of the people and cultures of the former Soviet Union. Upon completing my B.A. in Russian Studies from Columbia University, I received an M.A. in Russian and East European Studies from the University of Michigan, writing my master's thesis on the failure of a feminist movement to emerge in Belarus. It was at Michigan where I was introduced to the discipline of sociology and I received my Ph.D. from U of M in 2009. While at Michigan, I was fortunate to be involved in a large scale, multidisciplinary research project which eventually led to my dissertation on the topic of citizenship and ethnic relations in Estonia.
As the only sociologist at Westminster College, I look forward to teaching courses that form the "core" of the discipline, as well as developing courses base on my own interests, including Migration and Citizenship, Gender in a Global Perspective, and Political Sociology.
On a more personal note, my husband and I enjoy traveling, checking out used bookstores, and visiting every diner we can find. I also spend my time doing Pilates, cooking, and doting on my 15 year-old cat, Libby.
