Occupancy: The new house will provide rooms for 40 active members of the fraternity, a kitchen and dining room, social and study space, a house director's apartment and a chapter room.
Location: The new Beta House will be constructed on the current location at the corner of Westminster Avenue and Sixth Street.
Need: The Alpha Delta Chapter of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity was established at Westminster College in 1868. The chapter holds the distinction of being the oldest fraternity in continuous operation west of the Mississippi River. The current Beta House was constructed in 1927 at a cost of $40,000. A fire damaged the house in 1946, and the structure was rebuilt the following year.
Project Description: The exterior appearance of the house will closely mirror the appearance of the original Beta House, while the interior will be a significantly different design. The new living quarters for the Betas will contain approximately 18,000 square feet of finished space.
Schedule: The existing house will be razed in early summer 2007, with construction to begin in mid-summer. Current members will be housed in college housing during the construction. The new Beta House is slated to be ready for occupancy in the fall semester of 2008.
