The members of the 2013 graduating class of Westminster College will be honored at the traditional rites of academic passage, baccalaureate and commencement exercises, Saturday, May 11.
Commencement exercises will begin at 2 p.m. in Champ Auditorium. Only those with a ticket will be admitted.
The ceremony will also be simulcast in the Coulter Science Lecture Hall in anticipation of an overflow crowd of family members and friends of the graduates.
Commencement speaker for the ceremony will be Don Tomnitz from Dallas, TX, Class of 1970.
Tomnitz is the Vice Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of D.R. Horton, Inc., America's largest new home builder according to Builder magazine. He has been named one of the best CEO's in America by Institutional Investor magazine three times and has been included in the Associated Press CEO "Winners." He also was listed as one of the 50 Most Influential People in Real Estate by Bloomberg Businessweek in 2010.
Other activities at commencement will include welcoming remarks by G. Robert Muehlhauser, Chair of the Westminster Board of Trustees; the Senior of the Year Award; and the Outstanding Faculty Award.
That morning a baccalaureate ceremony will be held for the graduates at 10:30 a.m. in Champ Auditorium.
The baccalaureate speaker is Rev. Dr. David Holyan, father of graduating senior Anna Holyan. Rev. Dr. Holyan is pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Kirkwood, MO and holds a Doctor of Ministry Degree from Columbia Theological Seminary.
A commencement luncheon will be held for the graduates, their families and Westminster faculty and staff following baccalaureate from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Mueller Leadership Hall and Mueller Student Center.
Following commencement exercises, graduates will participate in the historic Columns Ceremony, a Westminster tradition. Just as they are welcomed as freshmen into the Westminster community by walking through The Columns onto campus, graduates say good-bye to Westminster by walking back through The Columns and into the world.
