The Westminster football team traveled to Duluth, Minnesota to play the College of St. Scholastica Saturday afternoon for the Saint's homecoming game. The Blue Jays of Westminster were held to 261 offensive yards in their 13-41 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) loss. The game put the first UMAC loss up for the Blue Jays and put their overall record to 2-2.
The Saints scored on the opening drive and again with 7:38 left in the first quarter. The Blue Jays retaliated and a 3-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Joe Plassmeyer to senior Mac Findeiss brought the Blue Jays into the game. The point after kick attempt was block by the Saints, leaving the Blue Jays down 6-14.
The Saints scored the next 27 points unanswered throughout the third quarter.
Just five minutes into the fourth quarter, senior Justin Billiot completed a 15-yard rush for a Blue Jay touchdown. Freshman kicker Jeff Dickerson made the extra point, bringing the game to 13-41. The Blue Jays stopped the Saints from scoring again, but were unable to make it past their own 40 yard-line in their final drive.
The Saints held the Blue Jays to their lowest completion percentage (33%) since their 2010 loss to Minnesota Morris (32%). Senior Ronnie Seals Jr. finished the game with 145 rushing yards. Dickerson had seven punts for 225 yards and three kickoffs for 177 yards.
