Joe Holmes from Gilbert, AZ, a local business development professional, will take the reins as the Associate Dean for Enrollment Management and Director of Business Operations at the new Westminster College campus in Mesa.
In this position, he will play a key role in enrollment planning, marketing, business development and business operations for the campus.
"We are pleased to welcome Joe to the new Westminster team in Mesa," says Westminster President Dr. George B. Forsythe. "He brings a great deal of successful marketing and business development experience within the Mesa area to our new campus and we look forward to his leadership in making our first year in Mesa successful."
Holmes is a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Council Member of the Mesa Chamber of Commerce. He also is a member of the Mesa Rotary Club and the Arizona Management Society and is a United Way CIP Volunteer for 2012-2013.
"I was excited when I heard that Westminster College was coming to Mesa as part of the higher education initiative and I cannot express how pleased I am to be a member of the Arizona team," says Holmes. "There is no doubt in my mind that there is a need for Westminster, a nationally recognized, private, liberal arts college here in the East Valley. I wish I had had Westminster as an option for my four children when it came time to select a college. I think we will see many of our students who felt they had to leave the Valley to get the education they desired stay here now and join us at Westminster."
For the previous five years, Holmes was the Sales and Marketing Manager for East Valley Disaster Services. His responsibilities included managing all aspects of business development as well as overseeing the company's public relations efforts and hiring and training sales team members. He developed the business development team from its inception and developed the proposal that resulted in the company being named the Mesa Chamber of Commerce Medium Size Business of the Year in 2010.
"I look forward to working with our local business community to determine what they are looking for in new graduate employee candidates to assist us in creating programs at Westminster to meet their needs," says Holmes.
Other positions have included eight years as Citigroup Area Sales Manager and seven years as Citigroup Loan Production Center Manager.
Holmes holds a MBA from Boise State University and a degree in business management from Brigham Young University.
"One of my initial goals is to inform as many people as possible that Westminster is here and that we are a viable higher education alternative for outstanding students," says Holmes. "I want to give students the opportunity to join us in an educational experience truly preparing them for the real world while also providing them with the experiences that will help them to succeed in life."
Westminster College classes will begin on the new Mesa campus August 22.
Westminster College is one of five liberal arts institutions that were selected by Mesa city officials after a nationwide search to expand higher education opportunities in the region through the formation of a higher education consortium of colleges and universities that would each offer different programs. Westminster was selected because of its strong academic reputation, the high graduation and success rate of its alumni and its rich history.
Westminster will share classroom space with Wilkes University at the Mesa Center for Higher Education. Programs offered by Westminster at the new Mesa campus will include international business, transnational studies, environmental science, environmental studies and English majors and pre-law and health professions minors.
