Dr. Linda Aulgur, Chair of the Westminster College Education Department since 2000, has been named one of Missouri’s 21 Best Education Professors by Online Schools Missouri.
“It is an honor to have been selected for this recognition,” says Dr. Aulgur. “Education today is an exciting field with the multitude of different ways we continue to discover to teach beyond the traditional classroom. But whatever the grade level, subject matter or learning style, teaching is one of the most rewarding professions, both professionally and personally, that an individual can pursue.”
Online Schools Missouri is an online classroom resource for learning about Missouri, providing information about careers and salaries in Missouri and providing advice and information about non-traditional learning styles and accredited online schools and colleges.
Dr. Aulgur also serves as Faculty Marshal for the College, teaches online classes and directs the Westminster Seminar, a first-year experience program which provides freshmen with the critical thinking, communication and research skills necessary to succeed at Westminster. The program has been nationally acclaimed for its effectiveness.
Before becoming a college professor, Dr. Aulgur taught at the K-8 level in public and private schools for 17 years.
Her professional accomplishments include articles published in national education journals, presentations at international, national and state education conferences as well as authoring a professional development text, Introduction to Early Childhood Education.
In 2012, she and Dr. David Jones, Westminster Professor of Psychology, took 24 Westminster students to Denmark where they visited elementary, middle and secondary classrooms. In addition, she has done research in early childhood classrooms in Edinburgh, Scotland, and Winchester, England. Her research interests include global teaching practices and art and music integration.
Dr. Aulgur holds a Ph.D. in Early Childhood Education from the University of Missouri at Columbia with a focus on art and music curriculum.
The mission of Online Schools Missouri is to challenge the one-size fits all philosophy when it comes to education and provide information and keep an open-minded philosophy about other alternatives.
