Westminster’s basketball officially kicked off Monday morning at 12:01 a.m. The men’s and women’s basketball team hit the court to start their season around their classmates, friends and family.

The night started off with a three point contest between the two teams.  After three contestants from each team shot, they had a winner, Junior Robby Burroushs (Santa Rosa, Calif. / Montgomery), with 17 shots made.  He then faced off a student to officially get the champion status.

Up next was the men’s team bonding skit, which was the whole team dancing to Cupid Shuffle by Cupid.  Towards the end of the song, they pulled the women’s team up to join in the dancing.

The women scrimmaged for ten minutes and then the night got selected fans involved.  The buzzer beaters were the next big event. Buzzer beaters are when the participants have 30 seconds to make a layup, a free throw, a three point shot, and a half-court shot. Two men and two women participants were selected at random.

The women’s team had their turn next to perform their team bonding skit.  Some of the players dressed up in outfits from past decades and danced to songs from those decades.

To end the night, the men’s basketball team scrimmaged for ten minutes.

The night was successful in bringing in the new season for the Blue Jay’s Basketball Teams.  Both teams begin their 2012-13 seasons on November 16th, when the Blue Jays host the Westminster Tip Off Classic!

Let the basketball season begin, and Let’s Go Blue Jays!
