Baseball Blue Jays Drop Doubleheader Vs. Spalding

Westminster College dropped the Easter St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) doubleheader against Spalding University Sunday.

The Blue Jays managed just one hit from sophomore Cameron Backes in the 1-0 game one loss. Kevin Moritz took the loss, allowing the one earned run.

The Blue Jays put the first numbers on the board in the game two 3-2 loss. Andy Pichler drove the ball up the middle as Tyler Branneky scored.  Whitaker batted in Backes in the top of the third to put the Blue Jays up 2-0, but Spalding went on to score two run in the next two innings to tie the game. They scored another run in the fifth inning to put them up by one, and the Blue Jays were not able to cross the plate again.

Backes led the Blue Jays, going 3-for-4 from the plate.  Jake Rule was credited with the loss, pitching six innings and allowing three earned runs.

The Blue Jays will face Webster University for a home doubleheader on Tuesday, April 2.
