The Westminster Men’s Soccer Team takes home the 1-0 win in overtime against Webster University Tuesday evening.
The first half of the game was an even game, with both teams confining the other to less than five shots each. With five minutes left to go in the half, two players received a red card for rough play.
The second half was just as even, and both teams confined each other to only three shots each. Both the Blue Jays and the Gorloks could not find the goal, leaving it tied at 0-0 to end the 90 minutes of play.
With three minutes left of the first overtime, the Blue Jays headed down the field to make something happen. Jacob Appelbaum (St. Louis, Mo. / U. of New Haven) hit a shot from midfield to the top right corner of the goal to end the game!
The goal is Appelbaum’s second of this season.
Westminster’s goalkeeper, Caleb Marquis (Moberly, Mo. / Moberly), ended the game with three saves.
The Blue Jays stay at home this weekend to take on the Beavers of Blackburn College Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
