Blue Jay Men Use Second Half Burst To Record Win

Fulton, Mo. – The Westminster College men’s basketball squad outscored Spalding University 38-24 in the second half to record a 69-55 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) win Saturday.

The Blue Jays (10-9, 6-4 SLIAC) and visiting Eagles (10-11, 7-5 SLIAC) were tied at 31 at intermission, but Westminster extended a 50-49 advantage to 67-49 with a late 17-0 run. Junior Joe Prophet (Jefferson City, Mo./Jefferson City) led all scorers with 21 points and freshman Verdis Lee (Fulton, Mo./Fulton) added 18 points for a Blue Jay team that shot 8-of-16 from 3-point range and 19-of-21 from the charity stripe. Senior Kelsey Weymuth (Cole Camp, Mo./Cole Camp) chipped in 10 points. Thomas Blakemore led Spalding with 13 points.
