Blue Jays Attend NCAA Midwest Regionals

The Westminster College men and women’s cross country team travelled to Oshkosh, Wisconsin to compete in the optional NCAA Midwest Regionals Saturday afternoon after placing third and second, respectively, at the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Championship.
The men’s cross country team placed 25th out of 39 teams. The Blue Jays six runners finished the 8K with a total time of 2 hours, 18 minutes and 3 seconds. Matt Borst (Flower Mound, Texas /Marcus) crossed the line first for the Blue Jays, finishing in 26:41.90. Pius Nyakoojo (Jefferson City, Mo. /Jefferson City) crossed next, finishing in 27:41.90. Within 20 seconds, Jared Patterson (Salem, Mo. /Salem), Will Megl (Troy, Mo. /Elsberry) and Daniel Lindaman (Columbia, Mo. /Hickman) crossed the line. Steve Heim (St. Peters, Mo. /Fort Zumwalt West) finished with a time of 29:15.9.
The women’s cross country team placed 24th out of 40 teams. The Blue Jays took seven student-athletes to compete in the 6K. The women’s team finished in 2 hours, 4 minutes and 11 seconds. Sarah Koestner (Lohman, Mo. /Russellville) crossed the finish line first for the Blue Jays, finishing in 22:54. Within a minute of each other, Kaily Downey (Kirkwood, Mo. /Kirkwood) and Sarah Ogar (Mexico, Mo. /Mexico) crossed the line (23:24.3 and 24:27). Lauren Lamzik (St. Peters, Mo. /Fort Zumwalt East), Brier Skogsberg (Kirksville, Mo. /Kirksville), and Clair Gibby (Little Rock, Ark. /Mount St. Mary Academy) finished in the 26th minute, and Michelle Aiello (St. Peters, Mo. /Fort Zumwalt East) finished in 28:36.7.
The Blue Jays end the season, and graduate 3 runners (Mylhan Myers, Victor Stichnot and Kaily Downey).
