Blue Jays Fall at the Buzzer

The Westminster Men’s Basketball Team tied the game against non-conference Missouri S&T, 74-74, with four seconds left before S&T hit a three at the buzzer.

The Miners of Missouri S&T had control of the first half, ending it with the Blue Jays down 31-42.  The Miners held the lead for most of the second half.  Verdis Lee made a layup from Joe James with eight minutes left to start diminishing the lead.  A foul by James with five minutes to go started the Miners’ 5-0 lead.

Mookie Valandra’s layup, followed by James’ steal shook the Miners.  A three by Lee from James brought the Blue Jays their first lead of the game with 1:31 left in the game.  The Miners took the lead back until Skylar Tolson hit a layup from James to tie the game with four seconds left. 

At the buzzer, Miners’ Mudi Eruteya hit a three to end the game at 77-74 and end the Blue Jays 4-0 win streak.

Joe Prophet led the game with 19 points, followed by Tolson with 15.  James dished five assists and Prophet dished four.  Lee and Valandra led the Blue Jays with four steals each, and Lee also led the Blue Jays with six rebounds.   

The Blue Jays take a day off before hosting their first conference opponent, MacMurray College.  The game starts at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 1st.
