Blue Jays Finish Strong at SLIAC Championship Meet

Hillsboro, Ill. - The Westminster College men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Championship Saturday afternoon. The women finished second out of six SLIAC schools. The men finished third out of eight SLIAC schools.
The women’s cross country team finished the 6K with a total time of 2 hours, 1 minute and 55 seconds. The Blue Jays has three of their eight runners place in the top ten. Junior captain Sarah Koestner (Lohman, Mo. /Russellville) placed second, crossing the finish line just 16 seconds after first place, with a time of 22:57.30. Senior Kaily Downey (Kirkwood, Mo. /Kirkwood) came in fourth with a time of 23:09.40. One minute later, Sarah Ogar (Mexico, Mo. /Mexico) crossed the finish line, coming in eighth (24:08.80).
The men’s cross country team finished the 8K in 2 hours, 15 minutes and 15.7 seconds. Junior Matt Borst (Flower Mound, Texas /Marcus) was the first to cross the finish line for the Blue Jays, finishing in 26:33.80. Borst placed 8th out of 72. Twenty five seconds later, Daniel Lindaman (Columbia, Mo. /Hickman) crossed the finish line in 12th place with a time of 26:58.70.
The meet ended the Blue Jays’ season, but not before receiving honors.
Sarah Koestner and Kaily Downey received First Team All-Conference. Sarah Ogar, Matt Borst and Daniel Lindaman received Second Team All-Conference. Sophomore Will Megl (Troy, Mo. /Elsberry) and Sarah Ogar were named to the 2012 Cross Country All-Sportsmanship Team. Sarah Ogar was also named SLIAC Newcomer of the Year.
