Blue Jays Move Win Streak To 7 Games

The Westminster Blue Jays held the Greenville Panthers to just 16 points while downing 34 points in the last 12 minutes of the game to grab an 87-62 win Wednesday night.

The home victory brings the Blue Jays’ win streak to seven games, moving their overall record to 17-5. The win pushes their SLIAC record to 10-3, keeping their second place spot in the SLIAC.

The Blue Jays grabbed the lead of the game and never lost it. The Panthers kept the game close and tied the game at 7 with 16:44 to go in the half.

The Blue Jays retaliated and pulled ahead by 8 after a Verdis Lee (Fulton, Mo. /Fulton) hit a short jumper.

The Blue Jays continued to increase their lead, grabbing a 15 point lead with a traditional three-point play by Lee. The Blue Jays kept a steady lead and headed into halftime up 40-29.

The Panthers came out of halftime and stopped the Blue Jays’ first half leading scorer, Lee.

The Panthers held the Blue Jays to five points to bring the game within three (45-42) with 14:51 left in the game. The Blue Jays struggled to stop them defensively, but in a two minute span the Blue Jays blasted a 12-2 run to grab their 15 point lead back (65-50).

The Blue Jays did not look back, blasting another 11-2 run shortly after. They brought the game up by 27 points with 1:50 left to go, and ended the game at 87-62.

The Blue Jays went 45% from the field and hit 11-33 from the 3-point line (33%). The Blue Jays had four players in double digits. Lee led the Blue Jays with 23 points, 17 coming from the first half. He came up just shy of a double-double, grabbing nine rebounds.  Joe Prophet (St. Louis, Mo. /Cardinal Ritter) followed with 19 points, grabbing eight rebounds on the way. Skylar Tolson (Columbia, Mo. /Rock Bridge) went 5-9 from the 3-point line, bringing in 18 point for the Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays dished in 24 assists, six coming from Prophet and five coming from Joe James (Kirkwood, Mo. /Vianney).

The Blue Jays head to Carlinville, Illinois this Saturday to take on the Blackburn College Beavers at 3:00 p.m.
