Blue Jays Return From The Holidays With A Win

After a strong lead in the second half, the Cornell College Rams cut the Blue Jay’s lead to 3 points, but the Westminster College Blue Jays pulled together and beat the Rams 80-68 Thursday night.

The Blue Jays came out with a slow start, giving the Rams an eight point lead eight minutes into the game.  A foul by the Rams gave the Blue Jays their 9-0 run to put them up by one with 9:32 left in the half. The lead bounced back and forth for the rest of the half, and the Blue Jays headed into halftime up 36-34.

Just after the Rams tied the game up a minute into the second half, the Blue Jays went on a 14-4 run. The Blue Jays held a strong lead until the Rams hit a jumper and one with 6:46 left in the game to start a 9-0 run.  The Rams chipped the lead to just three points when the Blue Jays pulled together and advanced their lead. The Rams could not recover, and the Blue Jays won 80-68.

The Blue Jays shot 52% from the field, led by Joe Prophet and Joe James with 16 points apiece.  Prophet, James and Skylar Tolson each dished four assists. Taylor Allen led the Blue Jays with 9 rebounds, five coming from the first half. 

The Blue Jays take New Years off, then head to St. Louis, Missouri on January 2nd to take on Fontbonne University in their second conference matchup of the year.
