The Westminster Men’s Soccer Team brings home the 2-1 win against Fontbonne University Wednesday night. The game, originally scheduled for 6:00 pm, was moved to 7:00 pm midafternoon due to rain, but did not get started until 7:50 pm. The win ties the Blue Jays with Webster in the SLIAC with a 4-1 record, and brings their overall record to 6-4-2.
After a scoreless first half, the Blue Jays were determined to score. R.J. Moore (Little Rock, Ark. / Catholic) kicked in a goal just four minutes into the second half. Moore rebounded the ball off a previous save by Fontbonne’s goalie. In the 65th minute, Sasha Mohamadi (Overland Park, Kan. / Blue Valley N.W.) scored another goal, bringing them up 2-0. Less than two minutes later Fontbonne hit a goal off a free kick rebound wall. The Blue Jays were able to stop the Griffins from scoring again, ending the game at 2-1.
The Blue Jays kept the Griffins to one shot on goal and the lone goal. The Blue Jays had six shots on goal. Jacob Appelbaum (St. Louis, Mo. / U. of New Haven), this week’s SLIAC Offensive Soccer Player of the Week, contributed three of those shots on goal, and Michael McDonough (St. Louis, Mo. / DeSmet) contributed two.
The Blue Jays head to Greenville, Ill. to take on Greenville College Saturday, October 20th at 2:00 pm.
