Blue Jays Take Early Advantage Over Beavers

The Westminster Blue Jays took an early 12-2 advantage in their 82-54 win over the Blackburn Beavers Saturday afternoon.  The win brings the Blue Jays’ record to 5-3 and their overall record to 12-5.

After the early 12-2 lead, the Beavers chipped at the lead and managed to tie the game 21-21 with 7:35 left in the half. The Blue Jays came back with a 12-0 run (33-21).

A three by Verdis Lee (Fulton, Mo. /Fulton) sent the Blue Jays into halftime with their largest lead of the half, 45-31.

The Blue Jays started the second half with a 14-3 run that knocked 6:29 off the clock.

The Blue Jays held a healthy 20 point lead throughout the second half, hitting their largest lead of the game (29) with 5:56 left in the game. The Blue Jays ended the game up 82-54.

The Blue Jays shot 51.7% from the field and had four players shooting double digits. Lee led the game with 13 points and three assists. Nathanial Caudel (California, Mo. /California) also dished three assists.  Jordan Jones (Chesterfield, Mo. /Marquette) grabbed a game high four steals.

The Blue Jays head to St. Louis, Missouri to take on Fontbonne University on Wednesday, January 23rd at 8:00 p.m.
