Campus News
Wednesday, September 3, at 8:30 a.m. Westminster College will be holding a campus-wide preparedness drill, simulating a campus attack by a shooter. A trained law enforcement officer impersonating the shooter will enter a classroom in the Coulter Science Center. The instructor and students in the class have met with emergency response officials and have been thoroughly briefed on the exercise.
We have also held a series of tabletop exercises with all campus officials with emergency preparedness duties so we are confident the drill will run smoothly. However, this will give us the opportunity to refine procedures and ensure nothing has been overlooked.
Our first concern is the safety of our students, and we want to do all in our power to guarantee that we are ready for all possible emergencies. We have been told that we are the first college campus in the state of Missouri to undertake a campus-wide exercise of this scope. This is just one more way that the close, caring community of Westminster is working together to advance the personal and professional growth of the students in our care.
