Football Falls to Minnesota Morris

The Blue Jays lost 20-54 to the University of Minnesota Morris Saturday afternoon.  The loss brings their overall record to 3-3 and their UMAC record to 2-3.

The Cougars put the first numbers on the board, scoring within five minutes of the game.  Minnesota Morris overpowered the Blue Jays in the second quarter, putting them up 28-0 before Westminster finally scored.  Joe Plassmeyer (Oakville, Mo./Oakville) threw a two yard pass to James Gladstone (St. Louis, Mo./Vianney) to head into the half down 6-28.

Westminster came out to the second half pumped up, and scored on the first drive of the half. Plassmeyer threw a seven yard pass to Gladstone to put the deficit to 14-28.  The Cougars shut the Blue Jays out, scoring four more touchdowns in the third quarter.  The Blue Jays ended the third quarter with yet another touchdown pass from Plassmeyer.  Plassmeyer completed a 46 yard pass to Alvin Stewart (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood).

In the fourth quarter, Westminster tried to score again, getting the ball as close as the Minnesota 14 yard line, but could not pull out another touchdown. 

DeVaughn Abram (Tulsa, Okla./Booker T. Washington) led the game with seven tackles. Wilfredo Vargas (Golden Gate, Fla./Golden State) led the Blue Jays with six tackle assists.

The Blue Jays return home next Saturday, October 13th, to play St. Scholastica.  Kickoff is set to start at 1:00 pm.
