Gladstone, Cornelson Named Athletes of the Year

Westminster College seniors James Gladstone (St. Louis, Mo. /Vianney) and Kenna Cornelson (Oklahoma City, Okla. /Casady) have been named 2012-13 Westminster College Male and Female Athletes of the Year.

Gladstone, who graduated with a degree in education, is a Dean’s List student and a member of Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society. He has been named to the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Academic All-Conference Team every season. Gladstone was a four year wide receiver for the football team and a team captain. He was named to the First Team All-UMAC this past season and Second Team All-UMAC in 2009. He scored 23 touchdowns for the Blue Jays and completed 2,255 receiving yards during his time as a Blue Jay. 

Cornelson, who graduated with a degree in biology, is a Dean’s List student and a member of Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society. She has been a four year member of the women’s basketball team and a three year member of the softball team. Cornelson is a two-time all-conference selection, an all-tournament team selection and an all-defensive team selection for women’s basketball.  She earned academic all-conference this year. She helped guide the basketball team to back-to-back-to-back SLIAC titles and two SLIAC tournament victories. She was a part of the first two Blue Jay women’s team to qualify for the NCAA Division III national tournament. Cornelson has played in 103 basketball games at Westminster, breaking the previously held record for most games played in a career.  During her four years, she was part of the women’s basketball team that compiled a school record of 72 victories.  Cornelson was active in Westminster’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), as well as other clubs and committees on campus.
