Dr. David Jones, Professor of Psychology
and Associate Dean of Faculty at Westminster College, has been elected to the National Council of the national academic honorary society Alpha Chi
Alpha Chi delegates elected Jones and three other at-large members at their annual convention April 4-6 in Nashville, TN.
The National Council, Alpha Chi’s chief governing body, is composed of 15 faculty members and seven students.
This year a new procedure was used to introduce each of the candidates running for the Council via videotaped biographies available on You Tube in January and playing on monitors during registration at the convention. Delegates also receive biographical information on the candidates before the convention and in their registration packets.
New Alpha Chi National Council members will serve until 2017.
“I am very proud and honored to have been re-elected by convention delegates as an at-large faculty member to the Alpha Chi National Council,” says Jones. “Alpha Chi is a tremendous national honor society for promoting scholarship and service, and I look forward to continuing to work with other members of the National Council on helping to guide national Alpha Chi policy and procedure, particularly with strategic planning for the long-term health and future of Alpha Chi and with evaluating Alpha Chi scholarship applications.”
Currently, Jones serves as a Peer Reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association and as a member of the Higher Learning Commission’s Institutional Actions Council.
His scholarly achievements include two published books, three published contributions to instructor CD-ROMS for psychology texts, six published papers and thirty presentations at professional meetings.
Before coming to Westminster, he was an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Lyon College.
Jones holds a Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Southern California.
“I have served as Alpha Chi faculty sponsor of the Westminster Delta Chapter for 15 of my 18 years at Westminster and privileged to serve on the National Council for the last four years, chairing the Long Range Planning Committee and serving as a member of the Scholarship Committee,” says Jones. Previously, I also served as President and Vice-President for Region IV. I absolutely love Alpha Chi and it has been a major part of my life since I came to Westminster, so it is an honor to serve in this national role for four more years.”
Alpha Chi is a national academic honorary society with membership limited to the top 10 percent of a college or university’s juniors, seniors and graduate students.
