Julia Caesar: A Retelling of William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar  3/26/2008
Student News

A new and bold idea has recently come to the Westminster College campus.  Westminster students have undertaken a groundbreaking theatre endeavor – a unique retelling of William Shakespeare’s classic, Julius Caesar. The production, entitled “Julia Caesar: A Retelling of William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar,” is a modern adaptation featuring a unique film incorporation set in modern-day times with many surprising twists and turns.

The play is under the direction of students Robert Davis (director) and Justin Cave (producer), and is being sponsored by Westminster’s Student Government Association and The Callaway Arts Council.

The idea for the production grew from Robert’s desire to help reinforce the Liberal Arts aspect of Westminster’s well rounded learning experience. In the spring semester of 2007, Robert was said, “Westminster College is a liberal arts institution with not enough liberals and no arts.” The highly ambitious pair of Davis and Cave set out to develop this refreshing idea, with a cast of 21 and over 30 crew members. This project sparked another creative benefit – Westminster students helping with the renovation of the Historic Fulton Theater at 613 Court Street where the play will be performed.

Julia Caesar will be performed at 8 p.m., April 10-12, and at 2:00 pm on April 13. All tickets are free, and all performances are open to the public.

To reserve your tickets, please email JuliaCaesarTickets@gmail.com or leave a message at 573-642-4222. Be sure to include the performance date needed, the number of tickets, and the name on the reservation.  Tickets may be picked up at the box office before the performance.
