A game-high 17 points from junior guard Leigh Ann Lutz (California, Mo. / California) pushes the Westminster Blue Jays to an 18-point win against Blackburn College (67-49). The win keeps Westminster on top in the SLIAC with a 7-1 record and an 8-9 regular season record.
The Blue Jays went on a 16-0 run to start the half, with two three-pointers from Lutz and another four points from free throws by senior Hannah Kloster (Springfield, Mo. / Parkview). Kloster added 14 points to the Blue Jay victory.
The Beavers scored a dismal 15 points in the first half in comparison to the Blue Jays strong offensive run bringing in 36 points.
Blackburn began the second half with five quick points and rallied back to within 15 points, but were unable to regain a lead due to the incessant pressure put on by Westminster and consistency from behind the three-point line from Lutz and Sadie Theroff (Jefferson City, Mo. / Jefferson City).
The Blue Jays finished the game with 19 assists, six coming from senior guard Kenna Cornelson (Oklahoma City, Okla. / Casady). Cornelson went 12-17 from behind the foul line, and Theroff finished with a career-high 11 points. Talisha Washington (Fulton, Mo. / Fulton) added nine rebounds to the win.
The Blue Jays leave the nest to face the Fontbonne University Griffins Wednesday at 6:00 pm.
