Westminster's Marquis, Clayes Earn Top SLIAC Men's Soccer Awards

Fulton, Mo. – Westminster College freshman Caleb Marquis (right) earned Co-Newcomer of the Year honors and Blue Jay Head Coach Martin Clayes captured the Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year award as announced by the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The awards are voted on by the conference coaches.
Marquis (Moberly, Mo./Moberly), who also earned honorable mention all-conference recognition, earned the starting spot in goal and finished the season 9-2-1 with a 1.07 goals against average for a Blue Jay team that finished 11-4-4 overall and captured the school’s second-ever SLIAC league title at 7-0-1. Clayes, who is in his second season at Westminster and is 23-10-5 during that time, is just the third Westminster coach in 21 years of conference play to earn conference coach of the year recognition and the first since 2002.
Senior team captain Matt Shoults (St. Louis, Mo./Lindbergh) was named to the all-conference first team and senior team captain Sean Peterson (Chesterfield, Mo./Lafayette) was named to the second team. Sophomores Jason Joshua (Little Rock, Ark./Catholic), Zach Moore (Nixa, Mo./Nixa) and Tyler Walker (St. Louis, Mo./Webster Groves), and junior Adam Ross (Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge) joined Marquis as honorable mention all-conference selections. Senior team captain JP Thompson (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers) was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
