Men’ Soccer Double Overtime Ends In 2-2 Tie With Illinois College

The Blue Jays had their second consecutive game head into the second overtime, but the game against the Illinois College Blueboys Sunday afternoon ended in a 2-2 tie. The Blue Jays couldn’t grab onto their first season win, and moved into a 0-2-1 record.

Senior Mitch Stewart scored the first goal in the 32nd minute, putting the Blue Jays up 1-0. They took 5 shots, but could not place another one in the goal.

The Blueboys scored twice in the second half, once in the 47th minute and next in the 68th minute, giving them the 2-1 lead. The Blue Jays continued to fight, and tied the game in the 71st minute with a goal from senior Michael McDonough off a pass from senior Tyler Walker. The game become very physical, but the Blue Jays held their ground.Neither team was able to score before the 90 minute mark arrived and the game headed into overtime.

Westminster was unable to get a shot off in the first overtime, but they held the Blueboys to only one shot. The game headed into the second overtime, and the Blue Jays held the Blueboys to two shots, one on goal. The Blue Jays took three shots, one on goal. Neither team was able to score, ending the game in a tie.

Senior John Davis finished the game with six saves, collecting his first loss of the season.

The Blue Jays will host Columbia College for their home opener on Thursday, September 12th at 7:00 p.m.
