Men's Soccer Team's Road Trip to Kentucky Ends Well

Over the weekend, the Westminster Men’s Soccer Team traveled to Kentucky to face Spalding University in the second conference match up this season. Along the way, the men’s soccer team stopped to play Centre College. The Blue Jays walked away with a win over Spalding and a tie against Centre in two overtimes. The men’s team is now 2-0 in the conference and 4-3-2 overall.
The Westminster College Men’s Soccer Team came out strong against Centre College Sunday evening. Adam Ross (Sr.) kicked in an unassisted goal twenty minutes into the game to take the 1-0 lead. The Blue Jays scored again when Jacob Appelbaum (So.) scored from a pass by Muhle Dlamini (So.) and Chad Miller (Fr.). For the next forty minutes of play, the game was scoreless. Within two minutes of each other, Centre scored twice, tying up the game. The game went into two overtimes, but neither team could find the goal and the game ended as a tie. The Blue Jays goalie, Caleb Marquis (So.), had four saves.
Monday afternoon the Blue Jays took the field against the Golden Eagles. Westminster took possession of the field against Spalding, scoring in the first four minutes of the game. After Spalding scored in the thirteenth minute to tie the game, neither team could find the goal. Towards the end of the game, it started raining, but that did not stop the game! Miller came in for a goal in the sixty-fourth minute. Soon after the goal, Spalding tied the game back up. Set on not tying again, Daryl Doran (Fr.) scored to put the Blue Jays ahead 3-2. Westminster only allowed two shots on goal for the Golden Eagles, while the Blue Jays had seven. The win advanced the men’s record 2-0 to first in the conference.
The Westminster Blue Jays return to play Saturday October 6th when they host Principia College at 3:00 p.m.
