The Westminster men's soccer team shutout Principia 1-0 Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays are now 2-6-1 overall and 1-0 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) play.

"The guys played solid for just about the entire time. They had a great week of training leading up to today's game," commented Coach Andrew Bordelon.

The Blue Jays had seven shots in the first half and two of them were on goal. We had a couple of chances early in the game to score, but we weren't able to," said Coach Bordelon. The Blue Jays were only able to get one shot on goal in the second half.

After 90 minutes of play, the game was still scoreless. Just 3:24 into the first overtime freshman Drew Cook was able to break away off a pass from freshman Peter Gerber. Cook passed two defenders and shot a hard ground ball that Principia was unable to stop from going in, ending the game with a 1-0 Westminster win.

Freshman goalkeeper Raul Belman Romero (2-3) ended the game with seven saves and his first collegiate shutout. "Raul and the whole backline was superb the whole game," said Coach Bordelon.

The Blue Jays will head to Carlinville, Illinois next Saturday, October 5, to play Blackburn College in Westminster's second conference match up. The first touch will be at 1:00 p.m.
