Students Attend and Win Awards at Midwest Model UN

A team of twenty-one students represented Westminster College well during the 52nd Annual Midwest Model United Nations February 15-18, 2012, in St. Louis, Missouri. 

One additional student, Fitim Veliu, was part of the permanent Midwest Model UN staff for the second year in a row, working with professionals, graduate students, and a few select undgergraduate students.  This year, he served as the Chair of the Commission on Sustainable Development.  Mariana Hernandez Johannesen also served on the dais as part of Fitim's staff during this simulation.

Two Westminster students won awards:

  • Brian Waters (Jr., Liberty, Illinois) for Most Outstanding Delegate Award representing Lebanon on the Security Council
  • Corey Lehrer (So., South Africa) for Outstanding Position Paper representing the United States

Congratulations to Professor Hank Landry,Visiting Professor of Asian Studies, for his excellent work in preparing these students for the Midwest Model United Nations; congratulations also to the team for their success!

Midwest Model UN is an organization dedicated to broadening collegiate awareness of world politics and providing a forum for students to debate the most pressing international issues outside the classroom.
