Nine Individuals, Record-Setting Relays Score For Blue Jays

Jacksonville, Ill. - Nine Westminster College individuals and two record-setting relay teams scored points at the Illinois College Snowbird Open this past Saturday. It was the first competition for the Blue Jay track and field teams this season.
Freshman Tony Mitchell placed third in the men’s long jump (6.38m), sophomore Sarah Koestner (5:42.49) and junior Kaily Downey (5:50.48) finished third and fifth in the women’s mile run, Jared Patterson (4:41.89) placed fourth in the men’s mile, Courtney Griswold (1:12.31) added an eighth-place finish in the women’s 400-meter dash, Sarah Ogar (2:40.76) took seventh in the women’s 800-meter run, and sophomore Matt Borst (9:38.93), freshman Daniel Lindeman (9:49.39) and freshman Will Megl (10:09.86) went sixth through eighth in the men’s 3000-meter run.
The Westminster women’s distance medley relay team of Downey, Ogar, freshman Lyndsey Steele and Koestner took second in a school-best time of 13:35.10. and the men’s distance medley relay team of Patterson, junior Mylhan Myers, sophomore Eric Boeckman and Borst took second in a school-best 11:16.08.
Westminster placed eighth out of the twelve women’s teams that scored and ninth out of the twelve men’s teams that scored.
