SLIAC Tournament Postponed Until Weekend Due To Weather

Due to the forecast for a snow and ice storm to hit Fulton on Thursday, the SLIAC decided to postpone the women’s basketball Conference tournament.
Originally scheduled for semifinal games to be played on Thursday, February 21, and the championship on Saturday, February 23, at Westminster College in Fulton, the new schedule moves the semifinal games to Saturday
and the championship game to Sunday, February 24
. The semifinal game times are now at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

The Westminster College women’s basketball team grabbed the SLIAC title for the third consecutive year. The Blue Jays (13-2) will host the SLIAC Tournament this Thursday and Saturday. The Blue Jays will play the fourth seed, Spalding University (10-6) at 3:00 p.m. Saturday in the Historic Westminster Gymnasium. Second seed Webster University (11-5) will take on third-seeded Eureka College (11-5) to begin the afternoon’s semi-final games at 1:00 p.m.
The semi-final winners will advance to the SLIAC Championship game Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. The tournament winner will advance to the NCAA tournament.
Westminster is 7-11 all-time in the 12 tournament appearances, and the Blue Jays are seeking to win back-to-back tournament titles. They grabbed their first-ever tournament title last year when they defeated Eureka and advanced to the NCAA tournament. Westminster vs. Spalding:
Westminster leads the all-time series with Spalding 5-4. The teams split games this year, but Spalding cracked Westminster’s eight game win streak on Feb. 15 in Louisville. The two teams have never met in tournament play (This is the first time the two teams have met in tournament play).
Westminster vs. Eureka:
Westminster leads the all-time series with Eureka 17-2 and has won the past 13 consecutive games. The two teams met for the first time in conference tournament play last year when the Blue Jays beat Eureka 60-54 to win the tournament and advance to the NCAA Tournament.Westminster vs. Webster:
Westminster is tied in the all-time series with Webster at 23-23. The Blue Jays have won the past four-of-five, but Webster defeated the Blue Jays 69-65 on January 15 in Fulton. The Blue Jays have went 1-2 in tournament play with Webster. SLIAC Tournament Site
