First Ever Student Trustee at Westminster
Mike Butera, a senior from St. Clair, MO, has been named the first Student Trustee in the history of the College to the Board of Trustees of Westminster College.
Butera gave a formal presentation to the full Board meeting on the current needs, concerns and attitudes of the student body in his first Trustees meeting this month.
“I was incredibly honored to have the privilege to attend the Board of Trustees meeting as the first ever Student Trustee on the Board,” says Butera.
“I think having the opportunity to make the student body’s voice heard directly during the meeting is incredibly beneficial to the Board, as they have the chance to get our opinion firsthand.”
Butera is the Executive President of the Westminster Student Governor Association (SGA), Treasurer of his fraternity, Delta Tau Delta, and a member of the Blue Blazers Investment Committee. His past offices and appointments at Westminster have included SGA Executive Secretary, SGA Sophomore Class Business Manager and SGA Finance Committee.
This past summer as a 2010 Emerson Fellow in Public Policy, he interned in the Intelligence and Research Conference Department of the Meridian International Center in Washington, D.C. Butera has been a member of the U.S. Congress Korean National Assembly Youth Exchange, a delegate to the Student Conference on U.S. Affairs at West Point and a presenter at Westminster’s Undergraduate Scholars Forum. Last year he was a freshman class mentor.
“I am doing my best to make the students’ views known at Board meetings and I have been very well received,” says Butera. “I anticipate that the student body will continue to have a voice on the Board for many years to come, and I am very proud to have been the first Student Trustee.”
