Two Westminster Football Seniors Earn Preseason Honors

Fulton, Mo. – Westminster College seniors Gus Lyles and Rodney Lyles have been named to the 2012 Beyond Sports Network (BSN) Preseason All-American football teams. Gus Lyles is a third team selection and Rodney Lyles is an honorable mention team selection.

Gus Lyles (St. Louis, Mo./Webster Groves) is a senior linebacker who earned second-team all-conference honors as a freshman and first team all-conference honors as a junior. He led the team with five sacks and tied for first on the team with three forced fumbles while finishing second on the team with 58 tackles in 2011.

Rodney Lyles (St. Louis, Mo./Clayton) is a senior defensive lineman who is a returning captain. He has earned all-conference first team recognition in each of his three seasons of play. He led the team last year with 61 tackles and four fumble recoveries, and tied for second on the team with four sacks. He also led the team and finished 17th nationally in tackles for loss.

Westminster finished the 2011 season 8-2 overall and tied for second in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference standings at 7-2. The eight wins are the fifth most ever and the third time the Blue Jays have won eight games in a season in the 51-year history of the program.

Beyond Sports Network is a sports media company that features students and student athletes from the FCS, Division II, Division III, and NAIA levels.  These athletes are featured through social network profiles, radio interviews, print interviews, and events.
