WC Softball Losing Streak Reaches Four Games

Fulton, Mo. – The losing streak for the Westminster College softball team reached four games with a St. Louis Intercollegiate Conference (SLIAC) doubleheader loss to league-leading Fontbonne University Tuesday. The Blue Jays (13-17, 7-7 SLIAC) lost 11-3 and 3-1 to Fontbonne (24-10, 13-1 SLIAC).
Fontbonne took the early 5-1 lead in the opener and after Westminster cut the deficit to 5-3 in the fifth inning, the visitors put the game away scoring six runs in the sixth inning. The Blue Jays recorded three hits, all singles by sophomore Brittany Lee, sophomore Megan Kaysinger and junior Kenna Cornelson. Freshman Molly Adler walked twice and scored twice. Sophomore Sarah Schneider (6-8) took the loss with relief from senior Molly Mendenhall.
The nightcap went to extra innings where Fontbonne plated three runs. Westminster scored a lone run when Kaysinger, who started on second, scored on a fielder’s choice. Sophomore Becca Rose and Cornelson recorded the lone hits for Westminster. Lee (7-8) took the loss, giving up three runs on five hits with four walks while striking out eight.
