Washington's Double-Double Helps Top Greenville

A double-double by Talisha Washington (Fulton, Mo. /Fulton) aided in the 51-42 Westminster Blue Jay win over the Greenville Panthers late Thursday evening. The win furthered the Blue Jay SLIAC record to 6-1 and their overall record to 7-9.

The Panthers quickly grabbed the lead, but the Blue Jays stole it after a jumper by Leigh Ann Lutz (California, Mo. /California) put them up 4-2. The Blue Jays held the lead, until the Panthers grabbed the 9-8 lead with 13:41 left in the half. 

The Blue Jays rallied back, and a short jumper by Hannah Kloster (Springfield, Mo. /Parkview) took back the lead. The Blue Jays slowly increased their lead, and a 5-0 run from Mackenzie Haddox (Washington, Mo. /St. Francis Borgia Regional) sent the Blue Jays into halftime up 23-13.

The Blue Jays came out into the second half with the same mentality they went into halftime with. With 15:40 left on the clock, the Blue Jays went on a 12-0 run to possess a 20 point lead (39-19). The Panthers did not flinch, coming back with a 9-0 run.

The Blue Jays ended the Panther’s run, and kept a healthy lead.  The Blue Jays ended the game going 6-8 on free throws in the last two minutes of the game, winning 51-42.

Washington had her second double-double game, grabbing 11 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Lutz followed, chipping in 10 points, and Laci Luff grabbed 10 rebounds.  The Blue Jays completed the game with 14 steals, four coming from Kloster. Kloster finished the game with three assists.  

The Blue Jays come back home to host Blackburn College Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
