Westminster Blue Jays Lose 2-3 in a Hard Fought Battle

The women’s soccer team lost a hard fought battle Saturday evening against the William Woods University Owls. The loss brings the season record to 1-6.
Westminster College took the 1-0 lead after Katie Seyer took a shot off a foul in the sixteenth minute. The ball went just out of reach for Kelly Abernathy, William Woods’s goalkeeper, and swished in the top right corner. William Woods came back and scored a goal off a corner kick with six minutes left in the half. Westminster battled for the lead back, and Katie Koonce scored just minutes after. The Blue Jays went into halftime leading 2-1.
Both teams came out strong the second half, battling on both sides of the field. William Woods scored in the fifty-third minute off another corner kick to tie the game at 2-2. Fifteen minutes later the Owls scored again, taking the lead. The goal was off a rebound from the Blue Jays goalkeeper, Courtney Howe.
The Blue Jays fought hard to tie the game, but could not find the goal.
Westminster will head to Jacksonville, Ill. Wednesday, September 26th for their first conference matchup against MacMurray College.
