Westminster Co-Sponsors Youth Leadership Callaway Program  6/10/2008
Campus News

Callaway young people will have the opportunity to receive leadership training for a week in July thanks to the Youth Leadership Callaway program sponsored by the Westminster College Center for Leadership and Service and the Kingdom of Callaway Chamber of Commerce.

The sessions will be held from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. daily July 21-25 at the Chamber of Commerce offices for any Callaway County area student who is enrolled in the 8th, 9th or 10th grades for the 2008-2009 school year.

Tuition is $75 but scholarships are available for full tuition for individuals who meet the selection criteria.  Organizers of the program strive to ensure no qualified young person is denied participation because of finances, transportation or other barriers.  Participants are responsible for bringing their own lunch.

The purpose of the program is to engage emerging Callaway County youth leaders in a journey of self-growth while learning about their community, the value of civic engagement and the importance of developing personal character.  Participants will interact with other youth leaders, meet community leaders and improve their leadership and decision making skills.

The tentative schedule and topics for the program include:  July 21—Personal Leadership Training; July 22—County, State & Local Government; July 23—Business & Economics; July 24—Community Service Day; and July 25—History and Celebration.

Applications are available from the Westminster Center for Leadership and Service (573-592-6045) or the Kingdom of Callaway Chamber of Commerce (573-642-3055).

The two organizations have partnered together for the past four years to offer this program.
