Mesa area employers are invited to a special free luncheon at noon, Thursday, April 18, at One Oh One, 101 West Main Street in Mesa, AZ to explore what Westminster College at Mesa interns and graduates can offer to their companies.
Meg Langland, Director of the Center for Career Development, and Abigail Manwell, Asst. Director of the Center for Career Development and Internship Coordinator at Westminster, will discuss the services their office provides, how the Westminster internship program works, how companies could utilize interns and how companies can post positions with Westminster.
Westminster is well known for its highly successful career development program. 95% of its graduates are placed in their first jobs or professional schools within six months of graduation. Over 50% of all Westminster students complete an internship before they graduate.
Student assistance covers a wide range from career advising, critiquing resumes, providing mock interviews, hosting workshops and guest speakers, securing entry to graduate and professional schools, and finding internships. Students are offered a variety of avenues from electronic assessments and job boards to more interpersonal activities such as one-on-one meetings and workshops.
During the 2011-2012 academic year, Westminster Career Development staff had over 1,000 contacts with students through appointments, walk-in assistance or on-line inquiries.
Langland has served as Director of the Center for Career Development since 1998. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has served twice as a presenter on the national conference level and has written articles published in the NACE Outlook Journal, a publication for recent college graduates.
She holds a Master’s Degree in educational counseling psychology with an emphasis in career counseling from the University of Missouri at Columbia and an undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota. During graduate school, she worked in the campus career center where she gained her passion for career counseling.
Manwell has been working in the Westminster Center for Career Development since 2005 when it was named the Office of Career Services. She began as an Administrative Assistant and was promoted to Employer Relations Coordinator before assuming her current responsibilities in 2010.
She holds an MBA from William Woods University and a Bachelor’s degree in business from Pensacola Christian College. For three years, she worked at Pensacola Christian as an international enrollment advisor.

Classes at the new Westminster campus in Mesa will begin in the fall of 2013. The campus, known as The Mesa Center for Higher Education, is a 53,000 square foot facility, formerly occupied by the Mesa City Court building, located in the heart of downtown Mesa at 245 West 2nd Street. Westminster will share the space, currently under renovation, with Wilkes University.
