Westminster Guards Key In Win At Woods

Fulton, Mo. – Westminster College sophomore guard Leigh Ann Lutz and senior guard Rachel Backes combined for 30 points in leading the Blue Jay women to a 52-40 non-conference basketball road win over William Woods University Monday evening. The Blue Jays (14-2), who have now won eight games in a row, led 27-19 at halftime in winning for the first time in the four-game series. William Woods (13-6) saw its three game winning streak snapped.

Lutz (California, Mo./California) went 6-for-9 from beyond the arc and finished with 20 points, and Backes (Tipton, Mo./Tipton) made a pair of 3-pointers to finish with 10 points while pulling down four rebounds and dishing out three assists. Senior Liz Klaffenbach (Battle Ground, Wash./Prairie) scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds, and senior Heather Letourneau (Smithton, Mo./Smithton) contributed seven points, nine rebounds and three assists for Westminster.
