Westminster Men To Michigan, Women To Indiana For NCAA Play

Fulton, Mo. - For the first time in Westminster College history, both the men’s and women’s basketball teams will be playing in the NCAA Division III national tournaments in the same season. The Blue Jay men (17-10) earned their bid with a last second 58-56 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament title win over MacMurray College this past Saturday in St. Louis. The Westminster women (22-4) downed Eureka College 60-54 in Saturday’s tournament final in Fulton.

The Westminster men travel to Holland, Michigan, to face host Hope College Friday evening. Joining Westminster are the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and Illinois Wesleyan University. The Blue Jay women will be making their first-ever NCAA Division III tournament appearance Friday and will play host DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. Joining Westminster will be the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and Carthage College.

Westminster Men’s NCAA Tournament Trivia:
*The Blue Jay men (17-10) are making their third trip to the NCAA Division III tournament.
*This is the team’s second NCAA appearance in three seasons.
*Westminster lost at Illinois Wesleyan in 1995 and lost at Washington U. in 2010.
*This is the first-ever meeting with Hope in men’s basketball.
