Athletic News - SAAC

Westminster’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) participated in the 2013 Polar Plunge on Saturday, February 16, 2013 in Columbia, Missouri. The Blue Jays raised $2,168.22, topping the Non-MU College Fundraising Category.

In order to “plunge”, one had to raise $75.00 individually. Participants walked, ran or crawled through freezing winter waters to raise money to support the local Special Olympic athletes.

The Blue Jays had 10 student-athletes plunge into Lake Stephens.  SAAC Advisor Sabrena Lary also ran into the lake. The SAAC representatives included Michelle Fandl (Former President), Lori Jones (Winston’s Gang Chair), Brittany Lee (Philanthropy Chair), Morgan Shipley (Former Philanthropy Chair), Erin Slay (Treasurer /Fundraising Chair), and Ashley Schimmel (SLIAC SAAC Reps.). The student-athletes included Jordan Lauchland (Football), Grant Gershner (Football), Eileen Koppy (Soccer), and Rick Spinell (Football/Track).

The February 16th Polar Plunge was just one of many activities that Westminster student-athletes participate in to raise funds and understanding for Missouri’s Special Olympics.
