Westminster Women’s Basketball In Review

The 2012-13 Westminster College Blue Jay Women’s Basketball team finished their season in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Blue Jays took first place in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) with a 14-2 conference record and went on to win the SLIAC Tournament, earning them an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. They headed to Indianola, Iowa to play host Simpson College on March 1. They fell to Simpson, ending their season play with a 15-10 record.

The Blue Jays are coached by Tracey Braden. Coach Braden is in her sixth year as head coach for Westminster. She was named SLIAC Coach of the Year for the 2012-13 season, as well as two previous seasons. The Blue Jays were awarded the 2012-13 SLIAC Sportsmanship Award. This is the second consecutive season earning this award. The Blue Jays are graduating five seniors: Kirsten Carney, Kenna Cornelson, Hannah Kloster, Laci Luff and Talisha Washington.

Junior Leigh Ann Lutz hit her 1,000th career point during the SLIAC Tournament Championship game against Webster University. She also broke the season three-point record, moving the new record to 75 three-pointers in one season.

Many Blue Jays have received honors over the season, including senior Hannah Kloster and Lutz. Kloster was placed on the SLIAC All-Academic Team, the Millikin University Harriett Crannell Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team and the SLIAC All-Conference Second Team. Lutz was placed on the SLIAC All-Academic Team, the Bishop Classic/Hoops for Hope All-Tournament Team, the Capital One Academic All-District Team and the SLIAC All-Conference First Team. Lutz was also named the SLIAC All-Tournament MVP. The complete list of honors and awards are listed below.
